In Partnership with True/False Film Festival, stop-gap projects, presents Seeing You, Seeing Me an urban intervention experience by multidisciplinary artist, and T/F Artist-in-Residence, Mami Takahashi. Using a combination of photography, soundscapes, poetry, and performance; Takahashi explores the complexities of being an Asian woman struggling with the US immigration system in this exhibition. Takahashi’s performance, SEEING YOU/SEEING ME, is a visualization response to social, cultural, and political questions and will take place Friday, March 3rd at 4:30pm & 7:00 pm at stop-gap projects. Free and open to the public.
Mami Takahashi is a multidisciplinary artist from Tokyo. Using photography, performance, installation, and urban intervention, her practice explores the complexities of being an immigrant woman struggling with immigration and her awkward experience in the new culture. Previous exhibitions and performances have taken place at Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, Portland, OR; San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco; DANK Haus, Chicago, IL; The International Museum of Art, El Paso, TX; Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Canada; Gwangju Folk Art Museum, Korea; Instituto Municipal del Arte la Cultura, Mexico and Toriizaka Art Gallery, Tokyo, among other venues. She holds an MFA from Portland State University, and a BFA from Joshibi University of Art in Japan. Takahashi is a recipient of the Ford Family Award for MASS MoCA residency and the Pacific Northwest College of Art+Leland Iron Work residency.
